A spokesperson for the Hungarian broadcaster MTV has confirmed that Hungary will take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008, to be held in Belgrade, Serbia.
There were worries that Hungary may withdraw, despite achieving a 9th place with Magdi Rúzsa's Unsubstantial Blues in Helsinki this year, due to financial problems, which caused the country to withdraw in 2006 despite qualifying and achieving a 12th place in the final in 2005.
As Hungary finished in the top 10 in Helsinki, it is prequalified to the final in Belgrade. The method of choosing the Hungarian entrant has not yet been decided upon. 2008 will mark the first consecutive participation of Hungary in the Eurovision Song Contest for a decade.
