Eurovision influenced Estonia's economy

Estonia's economy growth rate was 7% in the second quarter of 2002, which was partly caused by the Eurovision Song Contest 2002.

After the rate was announced, Äripäev, the largest business newspaper in Estonia, asked some analytics what had influenced it. An analytic of Hansabank markets, Maris Lauri, told that the high percentage is probably partly caused by the Eurovision Song Contest 2002.

She based her statement on the growth rates of restaurants and hotels, which was 11%, probably because of the large amount of tourists who visited Estonia before, after and during the contest.

Some other analytics thought just the opposite, because in May the largest Finnish newspapers and television stations reported that Tallinn is full of people, so they suggested people not to go to Tallinn.
