Renars Kaupers, the lead singer for the popular Latvian band Brainstorm, told the CityPaper magazine that he and 2002
Eurovision winner Marija Naumova have a good chance of serving as the hosts of the contest in Riga in 2003.
“It's not 100 percent, but I think it will happen”, he said. “I have had some talks with the Eurovision organizers about this and I am positive about it”.
Renars Kaupers is lead singer of Brainstorm, the band that represented Latvia in 2000 at the Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden, Stockholm. Although it was the first time Latvia entered the contest, they reached a third place with the song 'My star'.
Kaupers also told CityPaper that, with the responsibility to host it in 2003, Latvia had a chance to pump new life into the Eurovision Song Contest, which suffered a lot of negative comments the past years. “Latvia hosting the Eurovision finals is a possibility to change something in this contest, to make it more exciting”, he said.
While Kaupers is confident of himself, the organisation of the event has not released any information yet concerning the show's hosts.
