The BBC is planning a Eurovision-themed special edition of its music programme Top of the Pops 2, it was revealed today in The Sun's online edition.

The Eurovision programme will be one of several themed specials lasting 60 to 90 minutes long, with other broadcasts focusing on Summer hits, Halloween chart successes, Country music, Christmas songs and The Police, with the latter timed to coincide with the group's comeback tour this year. The programmes will air around August.

Top of the Pops 2 became the final programme to carry the Top of the Pops brand as the BBC's flagship music programme after the original show was moved to the BBC's second channel in recent years. Although the final show aired in July 2006, the special programmes will be a welcome revival of the pop celebration which began on New Year's Day, 1964.
