Russia: Tomalchevy Twins to Shine in Copenhagen

Last Sunday RTR, the Russian national broadcaster announced  that the 2006 Junior Eurovision Russian winners, the Tomalchevy Twins had been selected to will fly the Russian flag in Copenhagen. They will represent Russia at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest with Shine.

The 2014 Russian Eurovision entry Shine has been composed by Russian superstar Philipp Kirkorov and the internationally acclaimed Greek composer Dimitris Kontopoulos.

Phillip Kirkorov represented Russia at the 1995 Eurovision Song Contest and has been involved in the Eurovision Song Contest several times a a producer (Russia 2006, Belarus 2007, Ukraine 2008)

Dimitris Kontopolous has gained much fame and name both in Greece and overseas thanks to his talent and musical experience. He is no new face to the Eurovision Song Contest having composed several Eurovision entries: Azerbaijan 2013, Greece 2009 and Ukraine 2008. He was also behind Kostas Martakis‘ bidding entry Always and Forever at the 2008 Greek Eurovision national final and behind Anna Vissi‘s bidding entry Welcome to the party at the 2006 Greek Eurovision national final.

Shine has been penned by John Ballard, Ralph Charlie and Gerard James Borg.

Maria and Anastasiya Tomalchevy shot to fame back in 2006 when they won the 2006 Junior Eurovision Song Contest with their entry Spring Jazz. They are back on the Eurovison scene now setting their eyes on the main Eurovision Song Contest, hoping to bring back the contest on Russian soil for the 2nd time.

Russian national broadcaster RTR has opted to select the 2014 Russian Eurovision entry and representative via an internal selection. Initially the broadcaster had planned to select its Eurovision entry via a national selection.

Russia debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 with Youdiph’s Vechni Stranik, and has won the event once in  2008 with Dima Bilan’s Believe, and hosted Europe’s favourite television show in 2009 on home soil in Moscow.
