According to the German newspaper Bild and Armenian media, 18-year old Meri Voskanian, who didn't make it in the final rounds of the German version of Pop Idol, Deutschland sucht den Superstar, will represent her home country Armenia at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. However, OGAE Germany announces a national final, while several websites received false emails from a person pretending to be an Armenian broadcaster representative.

According to OGAE Germany, a national final will take place mid-February. Songs can be submitted until 20th January.

2006 will be the first time Armenia participates in the Eurovision Song Contest.

UPDATE: Armenian broadcaster ARMTV confirmed a national selection takes place mid-February and that songs can be submitted until 20th January. The story about Meri Voskanian is entirely false.
