Gor Sujyan and the Dorians will represent Armenia at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest.

You might already know Gor Sujyan, the frontman of the rock band Dorians, which is going to represent Armenia at the forthcoming  Eurovision Song Contest next May in Malmo, Sweden, with the song Lonely planet written by Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi.

Now we want to tell you a little bit more about Gor Sujyan and his band Dorians.

Who is Gor Sujyan?

Actually when Gor Sujyan was younger, he was not planning to become a musician. He was planning to become an economist, after he changed his mind and decided to become a computer programmer, and after all, as Gor says, everything got messed up and he became a musician.

It is believed that in this case the turmoil was in Gor’s favor, as in a very short period of time the young man who had never ever taken music education has recorded outstanding achievements in the music industry.

Of course, all of this took place not only by Gor’s own efforts, but with the help of his friend’s; Edgar Sahakyan’s, Gagas’, Arman Pahlevanyan’s and Arman Jalalyan’s efforts. Or in other words by Dorians efforts.

The Dorians have received many awards :Best Rock Group of the Year, Best Video of the Year, Rock Number One.

The band’s first concert was held in 2009 and was dedicated to the legendary Led Zeppelin rock band.  The world famous rock band had a big influence on the formation of the  Dorians. In 2008 when the boys gathered together they created a band called Gor and Friends and they began to perform the songs by Led Zeppelin.

Soon after  they decided to perform not only cover songs, but also their own songs and decided to rename the band from Gor and Friends to Dorians.

At the beginning the band only performed songs in English, but soon the Dorians made a great revolution in their repertoire presenting their fans the song  Yes Kulam which means I’m Crying in Armenian. The song was loved by everyone, maybe because it’s about love, but not about freshman’s love, as Gor said during one of his interviews: It’s about a greater love.

The presentation of the bands’ first studio album Fly took place on 22 December 22, 2011, and included many famous songs: Fly, You and Me, Life is Really Beautiful, Brave, etc.

Ever since the Dorians were formed, the band has enjoyed great recognition and fame throughout Armenia, they have performed at numerous concerts at clubs and pubs in Yerevan, Armenia. The Dorians have also performed in Moscow and their popularity has crossed frontiers.

In August, 2011, the band performed during the opening ceremony of Serj Tangian’s concert in Yerevan. But the most important concert for the band took place in September, 2012, when the world famous musicians Glenn Hughes and Derek Sherinian performed on the same stage with the Dorians in Yerevan.

Gor decided to become a musician when he first listened to Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven.

Armenia debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006 with Andre and is yet to win the event. The country’s best placing at Europe’s favourite television show has been a 4th place in 2008 with Sirusho’s Qele Qele.
