The Dutch broadcaster NOS will broadcast the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest on 20th May. The 1980 edition is the last edition organised by the Dutch public broadcaster and took place in The Hague.

The 1980 Eurovision Song Contest will be aired on the day before the final of this year's contest, 20th May, and starts around 23:20 CET. Prior to the transmission, people involved with the organisation of the 1980 contest will share their memories with the television viewers.

The idea to broadcast the last Eurovision Song Contest organised by the Dutch public broadcaster came from Gert Waterink, a regular esctoday.com visitor. “The 1980 Eurovision Song Contest is a special one, because it was the last contest organised in the Netherlands ánd it was the 25th edition! This year, we celebrate the 50th edition and I thought it would be great to broadcast the show again”, he said.

Noortje Kandt, head of the Dutch delegation for this year's Eurovision Song Contest, was enthusiastic about the idea, which she strongly supported. “Back then I was assistant director and I still have very good memories from that period”, she said.
