Gossip websites and Eurovision Song Contest related mailing lists spread the news about an upcoming Monegasque withdrawal today. Monaco would have asked the European Broadcasting Union to accept its withdrawal, following the decease of Prince Rainier of Monaco. Misplaced gossips in view of the situation.
Ukrainian broadcaster NTU got the ball rolling when it published an article, speculating about a possible withdrawal from Monaco, on the Ukrainian version of its official Eurovision Song Contest website. Mailing lists and gossip websites however made the wrong conclusions and a slightly different message, saying that Monegasque broadcaster TMC asked EBU to accept its withdrawal, was spread.
“If Monaco had withdrawn, I would have been the first to know,” reacts Phil Bosco, Head of the Monegasque delegation, to esctoday.com. “The Palace asked me to continue the preparations for Kyiv. These messages are wrong rumours you don't have to take into account.”
In Kyiv, Monaco will be represented by Lise Darly. With the song Tout de moi, she will be participating in the semifinal of the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest on 19th May.
