Martin Stenmarck to represent Sweden

Tonight in Stockholm, Martin Stenmarck was chosen to represent Sweden in the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest with the entry Las Vegas. He beat off competition from nine other songs in what was ultimately a two-way race. The public's favourite Nanne Grönvall finished second, gaining only 3 points less than Stenmarck.

The voting was made up of eleven district juries that determined 50% of the final total, while the televoting accounted for the other 50%. A record 1,519,997 televotes were recorded, surpassing the 1.4 million votes recorded last year. The song by Linda Bentzing is officially placed tenth, as it received no votes from the public.

Nanne Grönvall said afterwards that “It feels like a victory, because the public voted me number one”. She obtained 373,928 votes to Martin Stenmarck's 208,716. Commenting on Martin's victory, Nanne said “Martin will do very well in Kiev!”.

The winning song Las Vegas is composed by the songwriting team of Niklas Edberger, Johan Fransson, Tim Larsson & Tobias Lundgren, and will go onto represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest final on the 21st May in Kiev.
