Javine won the United Kingdom's Eurovision Song Contest selection show Making Your Mind Up tonight, beating the hot favourite, topless model and celebrity Katie Price, into second place. Speaking exclusively to esctoday.com after the show, she said “I'm still in a state of shock” and added she was �absolutely ecstatic” and ” that justice has been done� (following recent comments in the press by Price). �I want to thank the British and international public for their support and feel I have now been accepted�.
Fight for press attention
Javine won the 2005 British selection show for their Eurovision Song Contest Entry, beating popular competition from pregnant topless model Katie Price, and singers Gina G, Tricolore and Andy Scott Lee. The fight to represent the United Kingdom has received more press attention than any other in recent history, and arguments between some of the contestants have been well publicised, as their publicity campaigns gathered pace.
Ruslana
The show was opened by Ruslana with a reprising last year's winning song Wild dances, and she returned later to read the results of the international internet voting results. The United Kingdom�s first winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, Sandie Shaw was a special guest to read the results of the SMS voting.
The show
Each song was discussed by four celebrity panelists – Bruno Tonelli from the show Strictly Come Dancing (a former backing participant in the United Kingdom's Song for Europe preselection show in 1980 ), Jonathan Ross – a TV chat show host, Natalie Cassidy – from the drama series Eastenders and Paddy O'Connell, TV host and BBC commentator at the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest qualifying round. During the break between the performances, the audience in the studio was treated to footage from previous contests, as well as a guest performance from former entrant Sonia, who represented the United Kindgom in 1993. She sung versions of Waterloo and Boom bang a bang as well as her own song Better the devil you know and her own first chart hit You'll never stop me loving you. There was also a karaoke Eurovision Song Contest, with audience members, and a quiz.
The results
The main programme then returned at 21:20 CET for the crucial results.The voting was split into 6 regions, each awarding 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12 points. In addition, the international internet vote counted as a 7th region. The SMS vote was split by percent, with one point given for each percentage of the vote. The winning song, Touch my fire came first in five of the six regions, third in the internet vote and topped the SMS vote with 31%.

Directly to the final
Javine said that the victory meant a lot to her and she would give her all for the United Kingdom in Kiev at the Eurovision Song Contest on 21st May. The United Kingdom qualifies for the final as one of the Big Four members of the European Broadcasting Union.
