RTBF selects two songs for public final

As Leslie Cable, Head of Eurovision at RTBF promised us before, this year's Belgian entry would be presented in a televised show. Whether that would be a song internally selected by RTBF or a public national final remained unclear. Today RTBF made the final decision: two artists will compete for the Belgian ticket to Kiev in a show broadcast on La Une.

RTBF had received 120 songs. After a first selection by a professional jury, 5 high quality songs were left. Last Thursday, RTBF held a last audition in which the 5 songs were performed live. A jury consisting of representatives of RTBF's radio and television channels came to the conclusion that 2 songs were of outstanding qualitity and could not make a further selection.

The 2 songs will thus be presented to the audience who'll be able to cast their vote by telephone in a small-scale national final to be broadcast on RTBF's first channel La Une in March. The title of the songs and the name of the performers have not yet been unveiled. RTBF would like to give both participants an equal chance in the final.

The news that RTBF would had selected two songs appeared on eurosong.be last night. The past days, the site by Euro-Music has faced technical difficulties and could not be updated. Eurosong.be hopes be back online by Wednesday. Until then, they will update their visitors through a temporary page.
