The Estonian national broadcaster, Eesti Televisioon (ETV), announced that the Estonia preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2005, Eurolaul 2005, will take place on 5th February, 2005.

All songs have to reach the organisation commitee of Eurolaul 2005 at ETV by 17:00 local time on 6th December, 2004. As in previous years, a jury will choose 10 finalists.

The song has to be an original creation, it cannot be longer than 3 minutes and up to 6 artists can perform it on stage. The song has to be recorded on a quality sound medium, lyrics and a closed envelope with the data of the songwriters and performers with an insurance that the song has not been released before 1st October, 2004 has to be included in the package. If the song is in another language than Estonian then also a translation of the lyrics has to be presented. The language cannot be changed during the contest. All the rules are also available on the website of ETV.

This year the songwriters and artists have to be Estonian or foreigners who are Estonian residents in the sense of the income law. They also cannot participate in any other national preselections of the song contest. Also, none of the performers are allowed to be born after 10th May, 1989.

Due to a poor result in 2004, Estonia will first participate in the semifinal of next year's Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place on 19th May, before perhaps going on to the final on 21st May.
