Czech Republic in 2005?

According to the chief editor of the centre for music and theatre of Ceská Televize, Ondrej Sramek, the possibility of Czech Republic to take part in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest is being investigated.

Czechoslovak Television (predecessor of the current national broadcaster Ceská Televize) broadcasted the Eurovision Song Contest once or twice in the late 60s. Later, non participation was partly connected with political changes in former Czechoslovakia and, after 1989, with the financial situation of the Czech broadcaster.

Given the different political and financial circumstances, Ceská Televize considers to participate in the next contest, to be held in Kiev next year. According to Mr. Ondrej Sramek, the audience share for the Eurovision Song Contest would be 15% in the first year the Czech TV broadcasted it, whereas a share of 20% would be achieved with a Czech contestant.

The deadline for broadcasters to confirm the wish to participate in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest is September 30th.
