As announced last Sunday, Sakis Rouvas and his song Shake it managed to stay at the top spot of the Greek singles chart for a consecutive fourth week. Meanwhile, for a second week running, the official CD of the 49th Eurovision Song Contest can be found at the top of the compilation albums chart, proving that, apart from its success as a television program, the Eurovision Song Contest can now claim a considerable influence on the record sales of the country.

The Eurovision Song Contest enjoys great popularity in Greece these days, there is no doubt about it. A pop singer as popular and talented as Sakis Rouvas and the commercial success of last year’s winner, Sertab Erener’s Everyway that I can, ensured that the 49th Eurovision Song Contest would not go unnoticed by the Greek public. Indeed, two weeks after the show took place in Istanbul, the people’s undying interest is reflected by high record sales as published by the Greek division of IFPI (International Federation of Phonographic Industry).

According to unconfirmed rumours, Shake it is expected to be released in the UK sometime in July.
