“If Kiev was not ready yesterday, it is ready today”. These are the words of the Kiev City Administration Mayor Oleksandr Omelchenko to refute all the recent rumours about Kiev not being capable to find the suitable venue to host the Eurovision Song Contest next year.
The City Administration itself will be in charge of all construction works connected with the next year's Eurovision Contest and its jubilee celebrations.
As the regional TV channel KIEV reports, the place to erect a new concert hall is now selected by the Supreme Council of Ukraine (Verkhovna Rada), which gave priority to this issue before gathering to its regular meeting. The new building will appear on the left bank of the Dnieper river (Livoberezhna metro station) beside the International Expo Center. It is expected to seat 14,000 spectators with its area of seven thousand square meters. The tender to be held will select the constructors and the preference will be given to national investors. According to Oleksandr Omelchenko, there are already some investors eager to put up around 15 million euros in this project.
Besides the investors' money, it is expected that a special item in the budget will be allocated to fund the reconstruction of the main roads leading from the airports, train stations and to build some new convenient road junctions. The Mayor is going to supervise the major hotels in the center of Kiev to make sure that they are ready to host the guests.
