Ukrainian artist Ruslana apologised publically at the press conference this evening for breaking the glass floor during her rehearsal of Wild dances. She hoped it wouldn't happen next week and affect the artists who were due on after her – Lithuania.

At possibly the best attended press conference of the day, as more and more journalists arrive in Istanbul, the Ukrainian delegation presented one of the most organised press conferences seen so far. As well as showing their preview video, there was a second “Making of…” video, showing a behind the scenes look at how the video was shot.

Like several other artists she commented that the Eurovision Song Contest is seen as a big event in Ukraine, and that it was an opportunity to reach a wider audience. The single is due for a Europe wide release, and there is also plans for an English language album, with songs in a similar style to Wild dances. There is a British connection as she is working with producer Peter Gabriel on this project.

As well as damaging the floor, she revealed that there is a possibility that their leather clad costumes for the performance tend to tear very easily, so we could be seeing a lot more of Ruslana! On the other hand, the press conference was clearly planned from minute to minute on forehand, most likely to make Ruslana more popular. But if it'll work… time will tell!

Ukraine participates in the qualifyer round on 12th May.
