Germany 12 points, the country's national final to be held 19 March, will consist of 11 entries. Today, broadcaster Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) gave the second and final wildcard to female singer Masha. Maximilian Mutzke, winner of Stefan Raab's castingshow SSDSGPS, also holds one.
Rock singer Masha is the daughter of German game show producer and host Frank Elstner (Montagsmaler, Wetten dass) and schlager singer Marion Maerz, a familiar name for admirers of fine German schlager music of the 60s and 70s with hits like Er ist wieder da, Laggio Maggiore im Schnee or Schau mal herein. Marion Maerz finished fifth in the German national final of 1972 with her gospel song Hallelujah Man.
Masha's song for this year's German final, the rock-flavoured Right here, is produced by Leslie Mandoki, who scored a fourth place for Germany when he participated in the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest as a part of the band Dschinghis Khan.
Just as the second wild card holder, SSDSGPS-winner Maximilian Mutzke (or shortly Max), Masha still has to enter the German Top 40 singles sales charts as a precondition for her participance in the German final. Both Masha's and Max' singles will be released 8 March, which means they have to sell enough copies in the first week of release to make it in time.
