Fomins & Kleins will represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul. Their song Dziesma par laimi gained the most televotes during a live show on LTV.

Ten artists performed in the first round of Eurodziesma 2004. Three of them were selected by televote to compete in a second round later on the evening. Fomins & Kleins won this second televote with some thousands of votes more than runners-up Johnny Salamander & Meldra. Tatjana Timčuka completes the top three.

1. (41 297 votes) Fomins & Kleins – Dziesmi par laimi
2. (37 839 votes) Johnny Salamander & Meldra – We share the sun
3. (18 879 votes) Tatjana Timčuka – Like a star

Dziesma par laimi was the only song in Latvian in the competition. It will also be the first time ever that Latvia will not sing in English at the Eurovision Song Contest, unless Fomins & Kleins would come up with an English version of their song.

Last year the duo Fomins & Kleins ended as runners-up with another song in Latvian. This year they almost quit the competition due to Fomins' voice problems after he had caught a cold. Their CD Dzimis Latvija (Born in Latvia) has been released on the evening of the national final.

If the decision had been up to the international jury, who determined the ten final songs, the top five would have been like this:
1. C – Stones – All You Kow
2. 4.elements – Ready
3. Amber – Fly Away With You
4. Chilly – Not That Everyday Girl
5. Z – scars – Runaway

Latvia will perform in the qualification round of the Eurovision Song Contest due to the bad result of FLY in Riga.
