Kiddy Eurovision was a superhit in Denmark; 1,384,000 adults and children were in front of their screens when Danish broadcaster DR hosted the inaugural Junior Eurovision Song Contest last Saturday.
Preben Vridstoft, producer of the contest and head of Children and Youth Programming at DR, looks pleased with himself – and he has got every right to.
»We had been hoping to reach the standard million, like we do with the Danish national finals. I was in fact worried that Danish children were not going to watch a show where everyone speaks English and there is only one Danish song participating«, he admits.
»However, when we counted the viewers we arrived at, roughly, 1.4 million viewers. 91 percent of all children aged 3-12 were watching«, says a happy Preben Vridstoft.
