Iceland: “National final too expensive”

Our colleagues of eurosong.be reported that there is a small chance Iceland will organize a national final to select its entrant for Istanbul. Money is the big issue, according eurosong.be.

A national final is, according to broadcaster RÚV, too expensive. Quite a surprise to hear from one of the richest countries in the world. It seems that the worldwide regression also hit Iceland; an internal selection is a possible option.

From 1999 until 2001 Iceland already used an internal selection system. In 1999 Selma ended up second, two years later 2Tricky ended up last. The recent Eurovision success of Turkey, Belgium and Russia (the top 3 from Riga) might suggest that an internal selection is the receip of a winning song, but results from the past can't predict the future…
