He represented Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 in Riga. Now, Alf Poier wants to represent his country on the policital stage: he is thinking of running for president of Austria.

Alf Poier, currently touring Austria with his comedy show Mitsubischi, confirmed to the Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung that he is seriously contemplating running as electioneer in the next elections for president. “ORF has been calling me Austria's representative all the time”, Poier said referring to this year's Eurovision Song Contest, “so obviously one should imagine I'm suitable for the position.”

He wants to abstain from a poster campaign as he looks forward to personal discussions: “I could take part in televised discussions with the politicians then. There, they always behave like they know everything, and I would like to question that. As I am independant I could put another colour into the political debates.”

Aside from his political ambitions Poier still plans to apply for the German representation at the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul. It is also said he was offered his own comedy show on German broadcaster RTL.
