The 2019 Azerbaijani Eurovision hopeful Chingiz is in Tel Aviv this week filming his ESC postcard. During his visit to the ESC host city Chingiz coincided with the 2019 Italian Eurovision hopeful Mahmood with whom he met up and bonded.
The 2019 Azerbaijani Eurovision representative Chingiz joined the 2019 ItalianEurovision representative Mahmood in Tel Aviv for some pre-Eurovision sightseeing. Both artists travelled to Israel this week in order to film their respective Eurovision 2019 postcards. After coicinding and meeting they decided to break away from their busy schedules to hit the non-stop Israeli city and enjoy its sights and sounds.
The excitement came when Chingiz and Mahmood began discussing other Eurovision 2019 contestants. Within minutes, the two were covering each other’s entry songs— Mahmood sang a little bit of Truth, the song that Chingiz will perform in next month’s contest. Not to be outdone, Chingiz offered his version of Mahmood’s song, Soldi, relying on his smartphone to help with the Italian lyrics.
Before getting back to their intense schedules, Chingiz and Mahmood agreed to meet again in May between official rehearsals
Chingiz was selected via an internal selection in order to represent the Land of Fire aka Azerbaijan at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest with his song Truth.
Azerbaijan in Eurovision
Azerbaijan aka The Land of Fire joined the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008 and has won the competition once, namely in 2012 with Eldar & Nikki‘s Running scared. The following year the country welcomed the Eurovision bandwagon for the very first time in its majestic capital Baku.
The Caucasian nation has partaken in Europe’s favorite television show 11 times, having competed in the event every year since its debut in 2008.
In 2018 Azerbaijan went internal and selected Aisel to fly the Azerbaijani flag at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon with her entry X my heart, despite an extraordinary performance she failed to qualify to the Grand Final.
Chingiz and Azerbaijan will close in the Second Semi-final of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv on Thursday 16 May.
