Hungary in Eurovision

After Andrea Szulak with Árva reggel unfortunately did not progress in the preliminary round which took place to determine which countries would make their debut at Eurovision 1993, Hungary officially debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest 1994 in Dublin, Ireland, with Friderika Bayer and her powerful entry Kinek mondjam el vétkeimet (“To whom may I confess my sins?”), receiving 122 points. The singer achieved a respectful 4th place, additionally the country’s best placing in the Eurovision to date.

Hungary has placed in the top 10 of the Eurovision Grand Final six times since its debut: 4th (1994), 9th (2007), 10th (2013), 5th (2014) and 8th (2017).

In 2018 Hungary selected its Eurovision act and entry via its traditional national selection A Dal. Rock band AWS won the ticket to Lisbon with their entry Viszlat nyar. They achieved a 21st place with 93 points in the Grand Final in Lisbon, Portugal.
