It seems as if the first artist for the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest is known already. The credibel Cypritoc newspaper “Phileleftheros” reveals that the Cypriotoc national broadcaster (RIK) has come to a deal with famous composer George Theofanous on writing a song for ESC2002.
The performing group for Cyprus is believed to be ONE, which already had connections with the ESC through their lead singer Constantinos who participated back in 1996. It will be the third time for composer George Theofanous to participate in the Song Contest. He already composed two songs for his wife Evridiki in 1992 and 1994. Also, he is the manager and composer for all of ONE's songs.
Phileleftheros also stated that this year will be the first time RIK does not organize a national final. This was decided because two previous entries turned out to be huge flops. The final signatures are expected to be set somewhere in the next few days.
