Germany sends Lena Meyer-Landrut to the Eurovision Song Contest

Tonight, the German national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 was held. Two singers and four songs were in the running and at the end of the voting it was decided that Lena Meyer-Landrut will represent Germany in Oslo with the song Satellite.

Both finalists perfrformed the same two songs as well as an individual entry. In the first round, the favourite song by each performer was chosen. It was decided that Jeniffer Braun would perform I care for you in the second round while the favourite of Lena Meyer-Landrut was Satellite. In the second round, it was ddecided that Lena will represent Germany in Oslo.

The esctoday.com poll voters did not agree with the choice. Among the six performances, Jennifer Braun's I care for you was the clear favourite getting 38.7% of the votes. Satellite by Lena Meyer-Landrut still finished third in the poll with 16.1%.

The 2010 esctoday.com National Final Awards will be held between April and May, which means between the national final season and the Eurovision Song Contest. We will repeat the same format with two rounds for nominations which was used this year – you can read how it works here. However, this time the individual polls for each country will always be held right after the national final, when the entries are still fresh. You can vote for your favourite performance not to qualify in the German national final here and for your favourite song not to qualify here.

In 2009, Germany was represented by Alex Swings, Oscar Sings! with the song Miss kiss kiss bang. The duo finished 20th in the final with 35 points. As a big four country, Germany is directly qualified for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 on 29th May.
