Australia: SBS confirms participation in Eurovision 2018

SBS, the Australian national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday that Australia will compete at the forthcoming 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon.

SBS and Australia have been invited to compete at the Eurovision Song Contest by the EBU for the 4th time in Eurovision history.

In 2017 Australia selected its Eurovision entry via an internal selection. Isaiah Firebrace flew the Aussie flag in Kyiv with his entry achieving a 9th place in Kyiv.

Australia in Eurovision

The Aussies were invited to participate at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna as a one off ocassion, but our neighbours down under embraced the contest with such enthuasism they were invited back again in 2016, 2017 and we will see them yet again in 2018 . Australia nearly walked off with the coveted trophy in 2016 with Dami Im, who won the jury vote but placed 2nd in the overall vote. The country has an amazing record in its short 3 year history in the contest, 3 top 10 placings.

Eurovision 2018

The 2018 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 8, 10 and 12 May in Lisbon, Portugal.

The deadline for broadcasters to officially apply for Eurovision 2018 concludes by mid September. Hereafter, countries have a grace period to confirm their participation or withdraw their application without a penalty.

The final list of the 2018 Eurovision participating countries is expected to be released by the EBU later during the year.
