The race to get a web joker for the 2010 Melodifestivalen becomes tighter. The Swedish public broadcaster has allowed 50 entries to go through the next stage of the web competition, all of which can be listened to on the Melodifestivalen website.

A total of 246 entries were submitted to SVT to take part in the new online contest opened by the broadcaster this year. Those songs have been shortlisted and now only 50 are still in the race. Next week the number of candidates will be lower, 10, and the winner of the first ever web joker competition for Melodifestivalen will be announced on November 12th. The winning entry will be added to those to be performed live at the Swedish national selection for Eurovision 2010.

SVT received a total of 72,881 votes and also registered 655,442 song plays to determine the 50 songs now remaining, which are available to listen to here .

A few more songs have been disqualified since last Wednesday, when it appeared that they had already been played or performed previously, which is contrary to webjoker rules.

Sweden was represented this year in Moscow by Malena Ernman with the song La voix, ending up in 21st place in the final.
