The rumour-mill continues to spin in Cyprus with a number of known names being named as possible contenders as the 2017 Cypriot representative for the Eurovision Song Contest. Which names are currently at the forefront?

With a number of names currently being listed in the latest set of rumours including a wide variety of artists of different genres and styles, we take a look at the latest 3 rumoured names as reported on ShowTime CY.

Loukas Giorkas

Loukas Giorkas 2

Giorkas is no stranger to the Eurovision scene, having previously represented Greece at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest alongside Stereo Mike.

Giorkas first hit the music scene in 2008 following his participation in the Greek version of The X Factor, becoming the first ever winner of the country’s music competition and enchanting the nation with his powerful voice.

Going on to release his first EP entitled Mazi, Giorkas teamed up with Greek hip-hop artist Stereo Mike where they went on to represent Greece at Eurovision 2011 with their entry Watch my dance, finishing in 7th place in the Grand Final with a total of 120 points.

Following his Eurovision participation, Giorkas has remained fairly silent in the music scene. Will a second Eurovision participation representing his home nation be his ultimate comeback?

Charis Savva

Charis Savva 2

Another experienced performer is Charis Savva, notably known in recent years for her participation in the 2015 Cypriot national selection alongside Nearchos Evangelou.

As with Giorkas, Savva is also no stranger to the Eurovision Song Contest, having represented Cyprus at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest back in 2008 with the entry Gioupi gia!, placing in 10th position.

Continuing her music career over the years to follow, Savva made her television comeback in 2015 following her participation in the Cypriot national selection. Although qualifying to the Grand Final, it was John Karagiannis who went on to become the eventual representative for the country.

Earlier this year, Savva became the latest young and promising artist to be signed to Panik Records with new material expected to be released in the near future. Could Eurovision be Savva’s next musical move?

Andreas Leontas

Andreas Leo 2

A fairly new name on the music scene is Cypriot singer Andreas Leontas, having recently competed in the Greek version of The X Factor.

Competing in The X Factor earlier this year, Leontas became one of the favourites throughout the competition and going on to gain a big fan base in both Greece and Cyprus.

Getting through to the final of the contest, Leontas was voted as the winner of the contest, becoming the fourth winner to-date. Will the Eurovision Song Contest be on the horizon for the Cypriot singer?

Despite recent rumours, it is currently unknown how the Cypriot national broadcaster will select next year’s representative for the contest. More details are expected to be released from CyBC in the following weeks.
