San Marino: SMRTV confirms participation in Eurovision 2017

SMRTV, the Sammarinese national broadcaster has confirmed that San Marino will participate at the forthcoming 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv.

In 2016 the landlocked country opted for an internal selection in order to select its Eurovision entry and act for Stockholm. Turkish superstar  Serhat was given the honour of flying the Sammarinese flag in ESC 2017 with his entry I didn’t know.

San Marino debuted at the Eurovision Song  Contest in 2008 with Miodio and is yet to win the competition. The country has qualified only once to the Grand Final, namely in 2014 when Valentina Monetta  graced the Eurovision stage for the 3rd time with her entry Maybe.

With San Marino in the house, 41º countries have so far confirmed their intention to participate at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.

The period for countries to apply for participation at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest concluded on 15 September. Hereafter applicant countries had a grace period until 10 October to decide if they were to stay or not in the competition without facing a financial penalty.

The 2017 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held at the IEC in Kyiv on 9, 11 and 13 May.
