ESCToday in collaboration with the City of Stockholm will be bringing you a series of articles leading up to the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in order to showcase and introduce the 2016 Eurovision host city Stockholm to our readers. Today we will have a look at one of Stockholm’s most visited art museums, none other than the Moderna Museum.

The Moderna Museum is located on the beautiful Skeppsholmen island and is just a short walk from the heart of the city. The museum showcases both modern and contemporary art including the works of internationally acclaimed artists: Dali, Picasso, Matisse, Derkert, Warhol etc.

You will be able to admire a grand collection of paintings, sculptures, drawings, videos, films, installations and prints by Swedish and international artists from the 20th and 21st centuries at the museum. A must for art lovers, as one of the finest collections of both contemporary and modern can be found here. The museum runs both permanent and temporary exhibitions including many famous exhibits.

The museum is housed in a building designed by well known Spanish architect Rafael Moneo. Admission to the Moderna Museum is free.

Do not miss the museum’s fabulous cafe and restaurant. Most museums in Stockholm have nice cafes and restaurants offering a great variety of delicious dishes. It’s a very in thing in Stockolm to lunch in a museum!
