Shiri Maimon: First for Israel at MTV Awards

Shiri Maimon, the solo singer who took Israel to fourth place at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest, will become the first Israeli singer to perform at the MTV awards when she plays live in Liverpool on November 6th. She is nominated along with 22 other acts in the Best European Act category. Competing against her is the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest winner, Dima Bilan.

Shiri will record a new song in English to perform live at the event and is emerging as one of the favourites to win the award, today receiving the support of the Guardian Newspaper in the UK. 2006 X Factor winner, Leona Lewis, who has gone on to become an international superstar on both sides of the Atlantic is favourite to land the award.

Speaking to Ynet, Shiri said: “For me, it is amazing to represent Israel in Europe again. This may be a cliché, but it is really a dream come true to appear on an MTV stage. I will try doing the best I can
