Bulgaria: Poli Genova will fly to Stockholm!

The Bulgarian national broadcaster, BNT has confirmed that Poli Genova has been internally selected to represent the country at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.

Following a 2-year break from the competition, Bulgaria will make a return to the Eurovision Song Contest this year in the host city of Stockholm following confirmation from the Bulgarian national broadcaster, BNT.

Speculation has been rising over the following months in the lead up to today’s announcement, the most reoccurring rumour being that regarding a female solo artist. BNT confirmed that a female solo artist would represent Bulgaria at the upcoming contest in a series of hints which were posted via the broadcaster’s official Twitter Page.

Following this week’s clues, BNT has revealed today that Poli Genova has been internally selected to represent Bulgaria the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest this coming May.

Poli will compete in in the second semi-final of the contest with her song , which is set to be presented in March. Bulgarian National Television and an international team of well-known and respected professionals are currently producing the song that Poli Genova will perform on stage in Stockholm in May 2016. Bulgaria has decided against holding a national selection, mainly for budget reasons

The title of the song Poli is set to perform at the contest is yet to be revealed, however the song will be presented in March with more details to be revealed in due course.

This is Poli’s second participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, having previously represented Bulgaria at the 2011 contest in Düsseldorf after being selected via a national final. Competing with her entry Na inat, Poli received a total of 48 points in the second semi-final and ended in 12th place. More recently towards the end of last year, Poli was revealed as the host of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 which took place at the Arena Armeec in Sofia.

Bulgaria will compete in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest on the 12 May where, along with 18 other participating nations, the country will be competing for a place in the grand final of the contest on the 14 May.

Bulgaria last participated in the contest in 2013 where Elitsa & Stoyan were internally selected to represent the nation. With their entry Samo shampioni, the duo finished in 12th place in the second semi-final, receiving a total of 45 points.
