According to a source near to the producer of Operação Triunfo, the Portuguese candidate for the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 will not be selected through that programme. According to that same source, Rita Guerra has been selected internally to represent the country.
It's said that the television magazine TV Sete Dias also reports about this issue this week. “Fans already said it, and now the Portuguese broadcaster RTP faced that it's too late to set up Operação Triunfo to select the Eurovision participant of 2003”. Meanwhile, the programme will not be cancelled.
Rita Guerra is pretty successful in Portugal and participated in the Portuguese national final in 1992 with Meu amor inventado em mim (My love invented in me) which brought her to a second place. In 2001 she was in the jury for the Portuguese national final.
Although it's still an unconfirmed rumour, it would be an expected situation because RTP planned to start Operação Triunfo in February.
