The Estonian national broadcaster, ERR, has revealed that a record total of 238 entries have been received for the 2016 Estonian national selection, Eesti Laul.

With the number of submitted entries received rising every year, a grand total of 238 entries have been submitted by artists and composers for the upcoming Eesti Laul national selection, 19 more entries than last year.

Over the course of 2 days, the 4 and 5 November, a professional music panel consisting of 11 members will meet where they will narrow the 238 submitted entries down to a final total of 20 entries. The Eesti Laul 2016 participants will then be revealed on the 5 November at 18:00 CET (19:00 local time) during the television show Ringvaade, however participants have until the 11 December to publicly publish their entries.

Eesti Laul 2016, which will take place at the Saku Suurhall Arena in Tallinn, will consist of 3 televised shows including 2 semi-finals and a Grand Final. Each semi-final will include 10 participants, but only 5 acts from each semi-final will qualify to the Grand Final meaning that a total of 10 acts will participate in the Eesti Laul 2016 final. Estonia’s 2016 representative will be decided via a 50/50 televote-jury deliberation.

Eesti Laul 2016 dates

  • 13/02: Semi-final 1 (10 competitors, 5 qualifiers)
  • 20/02: Semi-final 2 (10 competitors, 5 qualifiers)
  • 05/03: Grand Final (10 finalists)

Who will follow Elina Born & Stig Rästa in order to become Estonia’s next representatives?

I’m in gay love <3 🙂 I can't wait to listen all the 20 lucky songs that will survive the cut and will see the illuminus light of Eesti Laul! <3 😀
Thank god that they will be released months before the live shows begin so we will hear them soon before 2015 ends 🙂
Who knows…Maybe the Estonians will do it again repeating the magic trick with having a hot favorite to win the Vision like *GoodBye To Yesterday* 🙂
    Oh boy…I'm excited 🙂

Its really ideal that the Estonians chose the method of sending the 238 candidate songs via post office! <3
& not using the cliche lame way of via e-mail on internet…The magic gets ruined when we did everything via the internet..
Those were the great times that we used to send real written letters to each other! <3 🙂

I would be so much happy to be one of these luckiest 11 people in the estonian jury that will be the first to hear every single one song from these! <3
