The Common linnets have enjoyed success across Europe following their second place at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. They have just released their second single called Give me a reason to promote their debut album .

Ilse Delange, the female vocalist of the band, was invited on Dutch Radio 3FM a few weeks ago along side the other musicians of the band to cover My silver lining, originally from Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit.The acoustic rendition of the cover is worth a listen and the voice of Ilse, arguably quite similar to the 2 vocalists of First Aid Kit, fits perfectly. The band also covered a beautiful version of Lady Gaga’s Gypsy on Belgian TV channel Eén.

After the contest, the band enjoyed international chart success with their entry Calm after the storm and their debut album The Common Linnets. In the new home land of the Eurovision Song Contest, Austria, the album has been since the contest, 18 weeks ago, in the top 20, peaking at number 3. The band received a triple platinum award, late July, for selling more than 150 000 copies of their album in their home country the Netherlands. Their album is currently at number 9 and has spent 17 weeks in the top 10 including 6 weeks at number 1.

Following on their success at the contest, the band has embarked on a European tour with a date in Switzerland and next month across the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Germany and a sold out date in London.

The band will also be featured on an American compilation called An Americana Christmas, with  a new song called At christmas time. The album will include songs from Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Band or Emmylou Harris. The album will be released on 14 October.

Tell us what do you think of both covers? Any other cover ideas?

I remember watching my first Eurovision Song Contest in 1988, aged 7. I have been a true fan since then.
