PBS, the Maltese national broadcaster has confirmed that Malta will participate at the forthcoming 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. The country will select its Eurovision entry via X Factor Malta.

The winner of X Factor Malta will represent Malta at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. The talent show is scheduled to kick off in October on TVM. The Maltese broadcaster will release more information in due course.

Malta has opted for a new mechanism in order to select its Eurovision act thus ditching the Eurovision traditional national selection.

Hence Malta joins the list of countries who have confirmed their intention to participate at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest: Sweden, Cyprus, Germany and Norway.

Malta in Eurovision

Malta debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1971 and is yet to win the competition. The country achieved its best result in the contest in 2002 and 2005 when it placed 2nd.

In 2018, Malta was represented by Christabelle and her entry Taboo. Despite an energetic performance, the Mediterranean island failed to qualify for the Grand Final.
