Asifa Lahore really wants to get to the Eurovision Song Contest 2015.

In our article of 23 October, we described that the character is the inspiration of Asif Quraishi who is gay, a drag artist and also a Muslim.

At that time the hope was that the video of the song You and I would be spotted by the British national broadcaster, BBC. The next target was for the Swiss selection but unfortunately, the Swiss choices for the National Final didn’t include her.

The shortlisted fifty acts have been now been published by TRM, the Moldovan broadcaster, and include Asifa and her song. She has now appeared on the BBC World television programme Impact. There she discussed HIV Activism in the South Asian communities and then sang her song.

Here is the video, she performed live on the programme.

The live audition show in Moldova will take place on 17 January 2015 where the song numbers will be reduced to 24.  These songs will then be split into two semi-finals on 24 and 26 February 2015.

I attended my first Eurovision Song Contest in 1995, and from 1996 presented daily live reports for radio stations from the event. Since then I have been providing material from everywhere the contest has been held. I also enjoy compiling most of the video materials for three UK ESC events each year. In 2010 I first provided material for esctoday.com.
