Cyprus: CyBC confirms participation in Eurovision 2015

CyBC, the Cypriot national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday.com that Cyprus will participate at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Austria next year. Hence Aphrodite’s Island will be returning to the competition after missing out on the event this year.

Thus Cyprus is the 15th country to confirm its intention to participate at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest scheduled to be held in Austria next year. Hence Cyprus joins Austria, Malta, Switzerland, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Ireland, Germany, Finland, The Netherlands, Lithuania, Belgium and Estonia in the list of the countries that have confirmed their intention to  participate at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest.

RIK, the Cypriot national broadcaster announced today their intention to return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015. The country will opt for a national selection in order to select its Eurovision entry and representative, hence publishing the rules and regulations for the competion on its official website.

In 2014 CyBC decided withdrew from the competition due to financial reasons. In 2015 we will see Cyprus return to the competition.

The last time Cyprus participated in the competition was in  2013 when Despina Olympiou represented Cyprus at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest with her entry An me thimase, failing to qualify to the final.

Cyprus debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with Island’s Monika and is yet to win Europe’s favourite television show. The Mediterranean island’s best placing at the contest has been a 5th placing in 1982, 1997, and 2004.
