Sanna Nielsen, the 2014 Swedish representative in the Eurovision Song Contest who came 3rd with her entry Undo, is making her debut as an actress in Malmo Opera.

The Swedish audience who is used to seeing Sanna always smiling and happy on camera, will get another side of her this fall when she  plays Doctor Zhivago. Sanna will come serious and passionate this time in the eyes of the public. Sanna will play Lara who is Doctor Zhivago’s lover. Here’s what Sanna had to say about this:

I have shed many tears during this process. It’s about love’s boundaries of what is permitted and forbidden, right and wrong. But in the end, no one can take away from you what you feel.

The musical is based on Boris Pasternak’s classic novel of the same title from 1957′s about four young people growing up and spans both revolution and civil war in the early 1900s Russia. Christopher Wollter plays Doctor Zhivago and in other roles are names like Philip Jalmelid , Rabaeus Johan and Marianne Morck.

I felt nervous in the beginning, that I’ll get to play with such professionals. But everyone is helpful and the work is very unpretentious. – says Sanna.

When asked why she took the role, here’s what Sanna said:

I hope that the audience can see that I develop myself and I do not just sing and be merry. In this role I show something completely different.

Doctor Zhivago will be played at the Malmö Opera, between 29 August and 31 January.
