Last night, the rehearsal audience and jury got a taste of Ukrainian representative Mariya Yaremchuck’s big secret: her custom dress.

The dress comes from the creative mind of Anna Osmekhina, a well known fashion designer in Mariya’s home country, and the fashion editor for Cosmopolitan magazine.

We wanted to show the great symbiosis for every women – power and tenderness of femininity, said Olena Koliadenko, stage manager of the Ukrainian delegation. We searched for something that could bring this symbol to every viewer, to underline the special part of Mariya’s song Tick-Tock and her character itself, to bring magic to the stage in every bit of stage presentation.

Designer Anna Osmekhina took the challenge, and from napkin sketch to final product, she worked with Mariya and her team to find the perfect fit. Black colours wouldn’t cut it, so they focused on a dark blue with scoured silk to give the performance something mysterious and unexpected, and highlight Mariya’s natural beauty.

The outfits were completed in a day and a half. Mariya is very lucky girl. Everything worked like a clock – it’s tick-tock in design actually! We found everything – from materials to accessories – really quick and that happens rarely in my line of work, said Anna

Most Eurovision viewers will get their first glimpse of the new outfit tonight, when Mariya takes the stage for Ukraine in the televised first semi-final at 22:00 CET with her entry Tick-tock. The show will be streamed live on eurovision.tv, and broadcast throughout Europe.
