The British creator of the Pop Idol format suggested that all winners in the countries where the format is used should participate in a mondial version of the show.

In Europe, the Pop Idol format is used for example in Poland, France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Australia, the United States and South Africa also broadcast the program.

Similar to the Eurovision Song Contest, the winners of the national Pop Idol shows should compete in a mondial version called World Idol. The winner of the show should be selected by a televote in all participating countries, all counting equally.

Although it is not sure if the format will be used, this might put pressure on the EBU to work on the format of the Eurovision Song Contest.
