For the second year in a row the Malta Music Awards (MMA’s) will take place a night after the Malta Eurovision, on 9 February 2014.
This will be the 18th edition of the MMA’s, first being staged in 1995. Amongst the nominees, one can find last year’s Maltese representative Gianluca as well as 2002 runner-up Ira Losco. Both singers will be competing against each other for Best Solo Artist and Best Video, for Gianluca’s Tomorrow and Ira’s Me luv U long time. Apart from these two awards, Ira Losco is also nominated for Best Song with Me luv U long time and Best Album with The Fire.
The MMA’s 2014 will feature various performances some of which will come from Sophie (MESC 2011, 2014), Junior Eurovision 2013 winner Gaia Cauchi and Ira Losco who’ll be revealing her newest single The way it’s meant to be.
One of the reasons for the MMA’s being staged in the same weekend of the MESC is mainly due to logistics. The MMA’s will use the same venue, MFCC, as well as the same stage of the MESC. This is the line up for the Malta Music Weekend:
Friday 7 February – Malta Eurovision Semi Final
Saturday 8 February – Malta Eurovision Final
Sunday 9 February – Malta Music Awards 2014
An incentive that helped last year and will be repeated this year, is that anyone that buys a ticket to the Malta Eurovision will be able to use the same ticket to attend the MMA’s for free. Those who do not wish to go to the MESC can buy their MMA ticket here: http://ooii.com.mt/ticketing/ticketshome.aspx Standard tickets cost €10 and VIP tickets cost €30.
