LRT, the Latvian national broadcaster kicked off its 2014 national selection last Saturday with a special Jubilee concert celebrating the 20th anniversary of Lithuania’s debut at the Eurovision Song Contest.

The 2014 Lithuanian national selection will consist of  4 rounds with a total of 10 shows.  20 candidates will battle for the golden ticket to Copenhangen. The 2014 Lithuanian entry will be selected on 8 February whilst the representative will be selected on 15 February.

A total of 20 acts will compete in Round 2 and the top 8 acts will then proceed to Round 3 of the competition. The 4 best acts from Round 3 will compete in the grand final on 15 February.

 

Round 1

Show 1–  (14 December 2013 )- 20th Anniversary Jubilee concert  celebrating the debut of Lithuania at the Eurovision Song Contest and its 20 year history in the event. Former Lithuanian representatives along with the 2014 Lithuanian hopefuls sing former Lithuanian and international Eurovision entries.

 

Round 2

Round 2 will consist of 4  shows running from 21 December 2013 – 11 January 2014 where the 20 candidates  selected by LRT will perform non-competing songs of various genres  and styles.

 

Show 2 – (21 December 2013)- 10 candidates will compete in the show, 5 will be shortlisted after a jury/public deliberation.

 

Show 3 -(28 December 2013)- 10 candidates will compete in the show, 5 will be shortlisted after a jury/public deliberation.

 

Show 4- (4 January 2014) -10 candidates will compete in the show (5 from show 2 and 5 from show 3). 9 will be shortlisted after a public/jury deliberation.

 

Show 5- (11 January 2014)- 9 candidates will compete in the show. 8 will be shortlisted after a public/jury deliberation. The lucky 8 will proceed to Round 3.

 

Round 3

Round 3 will consist  of 4 shows running  from 18 January – 8 February 20, where the 8 candidates will showcase their talent and sing the 16 potential bidding entries. The 2014  Lithuanian Eurovision entry will be selected along with the 4 finalists for the grand final.

Each artist  will perform 2 competing songs – of their own choice and/or appointed by LRT. At this stage the selection for the 2014 Lithuanian entry will be launched – the song will be selected via a jury/public deliberation. The public will have the chance to vote for their favourite entry on LRT’s internet platform.

 

Show 6 – (18 January 2014), 8 candidates will  perform 16 songs. After a jury/ public deliberation 14 songs and 7 candidates will be shortlisted

 

Show 7-(25 January 2014), 7 candidates will perform 14 songs. After a jury/public deliberation 12 songs and 6 candidates will be shortlisted

 

Show 8 – (1 February 2014), 6 candidates will  perform 12 songs.  After a jury/public deliberation 10 songs and 5 candidates will be shortlisted

 

Show 9 -(8 February 2014)-  5 candidates will perform 10 songs. Selection of winning song. After a jury/public deliberation 4 candidates will be shortlisted with the 2014 Lithuanian Eurovision entry. The 4 candidates swill proceed to the grand final.

 

Round 4

Show 10–  (15 February 2014). The Grand Final.  4 candidates will  perform the winning song. The 2014 Lithuanian representative will be selected via a jury/public deliberation. If there is a tie, the jury vote will be decisive.

Andrius Pojavis represented Lithuania at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo with Something, achieving a 22nd place in the final.

Lithuania debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 and is yet to win the event. The country’s best placing at Europe’s favourite television show was in 2006 when LT United achieved a 6th placing in the Eurovision Song Contest final in Athens.
