[tps_header]Last Friday, RTS, the Serbian national broadcaster announced their withdrawal from the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, in Copenhagen. The main reason for their decision was the difficulties in financing their participation. Today, esctoday.com looks back at Serbia’s years in the contest.[/tps_header]

Serbia & Montenegro years

Serbia debuted in Eurovision in 2007, after they participated together with Montenegro as Serbia & Montenegro in 2004 and 2005. Especially in 2004, they were successful when they sent Željko Joksimović with the song Lane moje. He finished in 2nd place, only behind Ruslana from Ukraine and her Wild dances. Folk ballads in their own language, like Lane moje, turned out to be a successful formula for the country when they returned to the contest in 2007 (Montenegro participated independently from then on).
