Being the winning country at the Eurovision Song Contetst 2013 has raised interest with songwriters.

A total of 872 songs have been submitted through the Danish broadcaster DR’s  portal. This is a record. The number has been steadily increasing over the years. In 2005 only 263 were entered and each year following this, the trend has been upwards:

  • 2006 – 336
  • 2007 – 475
  • 2008 – 443
  • 2009 – 684
  • 2010 – 562
  • 2011 – 663
  • 2012 – 678
  • 2013 – 692
  • 2014 – 872

Rasmus Ladefoged, Entertainment Editor for DR said – It’s crazy cool! It is just fantastic

He believes that being the host city has contributed to this popularity and that the writers want to see Denmark at the top of the scoreboard again in 2014. I think that has helped to create some of the attention that now brings so many contributions, says Mr Ladefoged.

The next stage is that a secret panel continues the process of selecting which contributions will perform in the Danish Melodi Grand Prix in Odense 8 March 2014. He continues – It will be really interesting to hear the contributions which we have received. It’s both amateurs and professionals, and we must also look at the wild cards that are professional singers invited by DR. Now the work starts.

The jury consists of a group of music personalities who are in tune with what is current and are kept anonymous.
