Will Horsens’ Faensglet prison welcome Europe next May? Would you prefer to go to Herning’s Jyske Boxen Arena where Emmelie won the golden ticket to Malmo last January? Or will you rather go to Wonderful Copenhagen?
After Copenhangen’s Parken Stadium withdrawing its bid to host the contest, it looks like Herning’s Jysken Boxen Arena is the hot favourite to host the event next year. Bookies and betting houses have Herning as their favourite with Horsens as an outsider after Parken’s withdrawal. This has caused a stir among Eurovision fans accross Europe as they were looking forward to fly to Copenhagen next May.
Nothing is lost yet as Copenhagen is very much in the host bid city race with 2 pontential venues the DR Byen grounds and B&W Hall in the Danish capital.
Many fans feel that the Danish capital is the best bet to host the contest next year. Copenhagen boasts of an international airport with flight connections with most European capitals and cities, has a large number of hotels and hostels to suit everyone’s budget. This international city has much to offer when it comes to restaurants, night life and tourism.
In comparison if the contest is held in either Horsens or Herning, international fans would have to travel to Copenhagen, Aarhus, Billund or Karup and then from there either take a bus or train to these potential cities in Jutland. Another hurdle would be accomodation and the transport to and fro from the venues to the hotels. We can also add the lengthy travel to and fro if fans stay in other cities: Aarhus, Billund etc.
DR, the Danish national broadcaster is currently studying and evaluating all the proposals along with their respective venues and bids and no decision has been made regarding the host city. 3 cities and 4 venues are vying to host the 2014 edition of our favourite television show next year. The EBU along with DR, the Danish national broadcaster will evaluate all the the proposals and bids and an annoucement regarding the host city is expected by autumn.
