France was chosen by the Sveriges Television SVT and organiser of this year’s Eurovision Song Content, to open the show. Performing first not only might have compromised Amandine Bourgeois’ chances to win the competition but could be the reason why viewing figures in France have been the lowest in years.

Indeed,only 2.7 million viewers watched France 3, the French national broadcaster, with a market share of only 13.9%. The contest lost 1,3 million viewers this year and was the 4th most program on TV. Unfortunately, The Eurovision Song Contest probably suffered as well from a tough competition with TF1, French number one channel, broadcasting the final of highly successful TV reality show The Voice.
