Cezar promises a new vision based on revival for Malmö

Our interview tour has reached Romania and today we hear the thoughts from Cezar who will perform It’s my life in the second semi-final on 16 May in Malmö.
Hello Cezar and once again congratulations for winning the Romanian national final!

Thank you! Hello to you and to all your readers!

1. So who is Cezar Florin Ouatu?

He is a 34 years old guy who was blessed with a countertenor voice. He was born in a family of musicians and his whole life was somehow related to this field. And, due to the votes of the public and jury at the national final, he proudly is now the Romanian representative in Eurovision Song Contest 2013.

2. You come from an operatic background. Do you think opera style works well at the Eurovision Song Contest?

As far as I’ve seen by now, any style can work at Eurovision. It depends on many things, but I’m sure that a song that reaches the hearts of the audience and a performer who masters a strong vocal technique will always be appreciated. I’m aware of the fact that an opera figure is quite unusual on the Eurovision stage, but that may be an advantage, too.

3. How did you decide to take part in the Romanian final?

Well… I share the responsibility for that with Cristian Faur, the composer of ‘It’s my life’. He wrote the song especially for a countertenor’s voice. So, he contacted me and invited me to enter this spectacular adventure, the Eurovision Song Contest… I liked it and said ‘why not?’

4. Do you normally watch the Eurovision Song Contest? Have you got any favourites from past years?

I remember watching the contest on TV since my childhood, though I can’t pretend to be some Eurovision expert… But there are songs that have passed the test of time, such as ABBA’s ‘Waterloo’, Johnny Logan’s ‘Hold me now’, Alexander Rybak’s ‘Fairytale’, Domenico Modungo’s ‘Nel blu dipinto di blu’, Céline Dion’s ‘Ne partez pas sans moi’ – and the list can go on

5. Do you feel a pressure to do well for Romania in Malmö or is it more important just to take part?…

I can’t say that I don’t. I respect too much the contest not to take it seriously… But of course, being part of this huge international event is already great.

6. What can we expect from your performance in Malmö? Will you make many changes to the presentation from what we have seen so far?

The presentation will be completely different. It’s a new vision, based on the concept of life, of revival… I can’t divulge more!

7. Can you tell our readers a little bit of the message in your Eurovision song?

The song is about living the moment, about loving completely and sharing your life with each other…

8. Have you ever been to Sweden before?

No, it’s my first time. It was on my list to visit during a future holiday, but it turned out that God had other plans for me!

9. If you could rule the world for one day, what would you do first?

Ur… brush my teeth? Ha ha! Seriously, it’s a difficult question. Maybe destroy all the nuclear plants would be an idea…

10. What would be your personal message to all the readers of esctoday.com?

Listen to all the songs in the contest, let them get to your souls and then… vote with your hearts! Thank you!

The esctoday.com team wants to thank Cezar for this interview and wish him the best of luck in Malmö!
