Introducing Anouk in the Netherlands would be like introducing Madonna to the United States, Kyle Minogue to Australia or Céline Dion to France. Anouk has sold more than 1.5 million albums in her own country, has topped the album charts on 8 occasions and has racked dozens of awards in her career. Could the Eurovision Song Contest be her next success?

The answer is likely to be a big yes; it is the first time in Eurovision history, in the Netherlands, that the national entry enters the charts straight to Nᵒ1 but also before the contest has even started and obviously without having won it (yet?). Birds was available to download on the day of Anouk’s press conference and went to the top spot in a matter of hours on the iTunes charts. Mega Top 50 revealed today that Anouk signed her second Nᵒ1 in the single charts, after her hit single Three days in a row in 2009.

Anouk is currently Nᵒ3 in the Eurovision Winner Betting  Odds

Anouk’ stardom started in the late 90’s with her hit single Nobody’s wife which entered the charts in several countries around the world. She has since taken a big part in the Dutch Music industry and has remained as one of the most famous Dutch singer around the world. Therefore it is not surprising to see her representing her country at the ESC this year. The Netherlands unfortunately failed to qualify to the final since 2004 and have without doubt high hopes to see Anouk end these 8 years of disillusions and bring the trophy back home for the fifth time.

I remember watching my first Eurovision Song Contest in 1988, aged 7. I have been a true fan since then.
